Dear Mama, you won’t always be this tired.
I’ve been tired lately. Really tired. You probably have been, too.
I woke up this morning wanting to go back to sleep for a few more hours. You probably did too. But I got up, because there’s a little boy in the next room who’s just woken up and is hungry. I know you got up too.
Because that’s what moms do.
We get up when we’re still tired, because someone needs us more. We push through the day, still tired, because there’s dirty diapers to change and laundry to do.
But a thought has been sticking with me lately, and I think you need to hear it too.

Mama, you won’t always be this tired.
I remember when Elijah was first born. The first week we spent in the hospital, and it was several days before he spent the night with me in my hospital room.
The very first night I had him with me, I was at the hospital alone for the night. I remember him trying to cluster feed, for about two solid hours sometime around 3am or so.
I was tired then. Really, really tired. So tired I felt like I was going just a little bit crazy (*cough*a lot crazy*cough*). But it wasn’t always going to be that way.
Mama, you won’t always be this tired.
I remember getting up multiple times every night to breastfeed Elijah. I was always afraid I’d fall asleep and drop him, even though it never happened.
There were days I was so tired from being up breastfeeding at night that I’d sit and cry when we had difficulties during the day.
I don’t think I was even that upset about having trouble. I was just tired. Can you relate?
Girl, you won’t always be this tired.
Those early days can be so, so hard. Especially when you are so, so tired. And it feels like this will always be your life, forever. A never ending cycle of never having enough sleep.
And it can be so, so frustrating to hear people telling you to “enjoy every minute, it goes quick!” when all you can think about is your next two hour stretch of sleep.
Some days you’ll wish it would go quicker. Some days you’ll wish you could get just one full night’s sleep.
Don’t worry, it won’t always be this way.
It feels like an eternity now, but one day your baby will sleep longer stretches. One day you’ll wake up and realize your baby slept the whole night. And you’ll feel like a whole new person.
Mama, you won’t always be this tired.
While the newborn stage can seem to stretch on forever, your baby will grow. Your little one will learn to sleep through the night. It may take time, but you’ll both get there.
Then there will be days when your children are up all night sick. You’ll sit up all night with them, catching a little sleep whenever they drift off for a few minutes.
You’ll be tired once again, but you’ll do it. Because you’re their mom, and that’s what moms do.
You’ll sacrifice your needs to take care of them, because as much as you love your sleep, you love them more.
Mama, you won’t always be this tired.
These days will pass. Your baby will grow up. You will sleep again.
Sooner than you think, you’ll have the whole night to yourself again. You’ll be able to relax, and get a full night’s sleep. You won’t feel like you are constantly in survival mode.
You will feel like yourself again.
It may not always feel like it, but this season of life will come and go.
Don’t be discouraged. Don’t let this time dishearten you.
You won’t always be this tired.
From one tired mama to another. ♥
Honestly worried that you will always feel this tired?
Hey mama!
There’s nothing quite like the exhaustion that comes with raising little ones. Especially during that newborn stage!
While to some degree it’s something that you have to push through, there are certainly plenty of ways to help yourself get more sleep and feel less tired.
One thing that most of us struggle with is getting our baby to sleep longer stretches. And that can make your postpartum healing stage especially challenging if you’re not getting adequate sleep.
That’s why I highly recommend pregnant and new moms take this baby sleep course. Created by a labor and delivery nurse and baby sleep consultant, Baby, We’re Home. Now Let’s Sleep! is an excellent resource for new moms.
What will you learn in this course?
I’m going to be honest, I seriously wish this course had been around when I had Elijah. It would have saved us a ton of frustration and trying to figure it all out on our own.
This course is comprised of fourteen lessons covering all the baby sleep questions you have, and addressing all the struggles new moms encounter.
Included are lessons on:
- Sleep safety & cosleeping tips
- Understanding why your baby won’t sleep
- Basics of newborn sleep
- Teaching baby to fall asleep independently
- Sleep regression help
- And so much more!
In my opinion, this is a must have for any expecting or new mom. If you’d like to grab this course, use the coupon code MOMCORNER to get 10% off the course! Because you deserve to get a good night’s sleep.
