Lessons Learned From Five Months Blogging
Optimize Your Pinterest Profile For More Followers
One of the things I did this month was optimize my Pinterest profile. And as a result I have been getting more followers, on a more consistent basis than I was before.
And the truth is, this wasn’t a hard change to make.
If I’m being even more honest, I knew from the start that this was something I should do. But I had been putting it off because it just sounded like a lot of work and like it would be a daunting task.
Turns out, optimizing my profile took under an hour and has paid off so, so much.
The key to optimizing your profile is to use keywords and keyword rich descriptions.
For instance, I put keywords into my title on my profile, and used keyword rich phrases on my bio. Then, I went through each of my public boards and made sure each one had a keyword rich title, and keyword rich descriptions. All corresponding with the board topic.
Once I finished, I began to immediately see more followers finding me and following my profile.
Create Quality Pins And Use Tribes
If you are even remotely interested in blogging, you’ve probably heard that you have to make quality pins for your blog posts.
I had heard this tip so often during my research before starting my blog, that I had it drilled into my head from the start.
But even if you know this is important, it takes some trial and error to figure out what that looks like for you.
Knowing that quality pins are important aren’t enough. I had to work to figure out how to actually do that.
Then, once you’ve figured that part out and start to see some traction, I definitely recommend using Tailwind Tribes.
Since I started using Tailwind and Tribes, I have seen more shares and repins than ever before. Plus, consistently posting through Tailwind’s automatic scheduler has helped to increase my monthly viewers. Which essentially translates into more eyes on my content and more shares, repins, and follows as a result.
If you’re interested in trying out Tailwind, you can get your first 100 pins and access to Tribes completely free through my referral link.
Use Instagram To Engage and Connect
This month I started using, really using, Instagram for my blog.
While I’m still working on being consistent with it, and am positive I still have a lot to learn, I feel I have learned at least some of it’s usefulness.
In my five months blogging, Instagram has proven to be one of the easiest ways for me to engage with my audience.
Additionally, it has proven to be a great way to connect with other bloggers.
Even in the short month of inconsistent work I’ve put in on this platform, I’ve already had some opportunities open up.
I would love for you to follow me on Instagram, where I plan to continue to give behind the scenes peaks at both my blog and my life.
December 2018 Income Report
Alright, now for the income part of this post!
My first five months blogging is slowly starting to turn into something as far as income goes, which I’m very excited about.
I am happy to report that during the month of December I had an increase in both traffic and income. Let’s take a look at the specifics.
Income:
- Adsense: $3.76
- Affiliates: $19.47
Traffic: 2,100
Most of my December income came from affiliate sales, which in turn came primarily from Christmas related posts. I’m so glad that I was able to provide valuable Christmas content to the moms who visited this month!
Going into the New Year, I have a lot of new content in the works that I can’t wait to share with you!
After five months of blogging, I feel that I am beginning to get a feel for what is most useful for my audience. But if you have other suggestions or would like to see a post on a particular subject, please feel free to reach out to me!

I’m so excited to start slowly seeing some income trickling in during my first five months blogging. Yes, I’m aware that it isn’t a ton of money compared to bloggers who make a full time income. But, I’m also aware that many blogs don’t even make it to their five month anniversary.
If you’re in a rut and not seeing any income from blogging, don’t give up! Blogging takes time, and is not a get rich quick kind of deal.
If you are interested in starting one, you can use my affiliate link to get a safe, reliable, and well supported blog through Siteground for as low as $3.95–regardless of whether you choose a one year plan, two year plan, or three year plan.
