Checking off the Pumping Supplies List
Before you can start the process of pumping breast milk, you must first round up the necessary breast pumping supplies to make the magic happen! I’ll show you exactly what you need below and some bonus pumping tips too!
When you purchase your breast pump, it should come equipped with the basic components needed to operate your pump.
- Breast Pump (Best Breast Pump Reviews and how to get one for FREE!)
- Breastshields that fit correctly (see a chart below to find your perfect fit).
- Coconut Oil – Lubrication for the flange – Where does the oil go?
- Extra Pump Parts – Tubing, valves and membranes, and bottles (how to use these pump parts).
- Hands-Free Pumping Bra
- Breast Therapy Packs
- Breast Milk Storage Bags
- Pump Bag
- Portable Electric Breast Pump – My recommendation below!
- Manual Breast Pump
Explaining the “why” behind the supplies
Breast Pump:
If you’re going to be pumping exclusively, using a hospital grade breast pump is a must! I recommend a Spectra S1/S2 or a Medela Pisa (pump in style advanced).
These two pumps will usually be covered by insurance and are made for volume pumping.
Breastshields:
The sizing of the breastshields are extremely important to get right. Here is a helpful diagram to show you the correct way to find your size.
The size of breastshield you need today may be different later down the road as your supply and breast tissue changes.
Breast Milk Storage Bags:
If you’re planning to stash some breast milk away to freeze for later, you must have a good storage system on your supplies list!
I recommend adding the Kiinde Twist system into your breast pumping supplies kit. I love that you can pump directly into the bag and place it straight into the freezer. You can also feed from the same bag after the breast milk is thawed. It’s an all-in-one system, which makes it super convenient for busy moms!
Portable Electric Pump:
This is a must have item as far as I’m concerned! If you plan on spending a good amount of time pumping during the day – being stuck to a wall socket is torture!
Freeing yourself with an efficient, small and portable pump, like the BabyBuddha is a must! Feel free to use my special code LOVEOURLITTLES10 for 20% off!
